Where is Sword Beach located?

Sword Beach lies on the coast of Normandy, in the northwest of France. It runs for about 8 km (around 5 miles). The stretch goes from Ouistreham to Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer. This makes it the eastern side of the five marked D-Day landing areas.

The location is also close to Caen. It sits near the mouth of the Orne River. That position mattered a lot for the British troops. They were sent to hold the eastern side of the invasion line. From there, they moved inland toward Caen.
