What is the Gros Horloge in Rouen?

The Gros Horloge is a clock from the 1300s. You can find it on an archway from the Renaissance era. The arch crosses a busy walkway in the middle of Rouen. It is still working, and it is among the oldest clock systems still running in France.

Up close, the dial looks like a work of art. The design has a bright golden pattern. It shows moon phases and the days of the week using figures and symbols. It does not just list the time. Near it, the belfry holds the old medieval mechanism. People can buy tickets. With a ticket, you can climb the tower. You can also see inside the clock. There is a top platform where you can look out over the cathedral and the rooftops of the city.
