How to travel from La Paz to Lake Titicaca?

Going from La Paz to Lake Titicaca, specifically to Copacabana, is usually done via tourist bus or a shared minibus called colectivo. The trip generally lasts around four hours, give or take. You go across the high Altiplano, and there is also this quick crossing by ferry at the Tiquina Strait, so plan for that.

• Tourist Buses: Most leave from the main bus terminal. They have comfortable seats and tend to run direct service with no real detours.
• Colectivos: These depart often from the cemetery area, Zona del Cementerio, and they leave once they are full. It is a lower-cost option, more everyday in feel.

At the Tiquina Strait, everybody has to get out of the vehicle, then buy a small ticket, and cross the water on a separate passenger ferry. Meanwhile, the bus is taken over by a barge.
