How to climb Huayna Potosí mountain?

Climbing Huayna Potosí takes a planned 2-day or 3-day guided glacier trip, and it should be booked via a certified mountaineering agency in La Paz. The route includes working through technical ice faces, deep crevasses, and an exposed summit line to get you to 6,088 metres, pretty much the top point.

Most people are strongly encouraged to choose the 3-day plan if they do not have prior alpine experience, because day one is used for key ice climbing practice and getting used to the altitude at the base camp. Good agencies provide the full set of essential gear too, like plastic mountaineering boots, crampons, ice axes, and harnesses.
