How do you get to Salar de Uyuni from La Paz?

You can head from La Paz to Salar de Uyuni with a 45-minute direct flight, or take an overnight sleeper bus that usually takes nine to ten hours, or try a mixed bus-and-train route going through Oruro.

Most people pick the overnight bus because it is the most popular and a fairly budget-friendly choice. Companies like Todo Turismo have safe arrangements and fully reclining seats, and you typically roll into Uyuni early in the morning, right as the first tours begin. If you want speed and comfort, flights from Boliviana de Aviación (BoA) are the quickest way to reach Uyuni, and you also avoid the rough stretches of road. The downside is that tickets cost much more. The bus-to-train option via Oruro (Expreso del Sur or Wara Wara del Sur) looks really impressive; you get spectacular Altiplano views, but you have to line things up carefully since the train only runs a limited number of times each week.
