Can tourists take photos inside Gur-e-Amir?
Photography is allowed inside the Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum in Samarkand. Visitors can freely record the breathtaking gold-leaf interior and the complex jade tomb markers of Amir Timur and his heirs, or descendants.
The inner chamber is among the most striking visual spaces in Central Asia. It shows detailed papier-mâché stalactite forms and deep blue tilework that really needs to be captured. Tripods are usually not encouraged so as not to block the routes, but normal cameras and smartphones are perfectly fine. Since this is a revered resting place, people should keep a calm, respectful mood when photographing, especially when nearby local pilgrims are praying.
