Is Caen walkable for tourists?

Caen is usually easy to walk in. This is most true in the historic centre and the nearby shopping streets. Still, the city covers a lot of ground, and much of it was rebuilt after World War II. So a few important stops take longer, or they are easier by bus or tram.

Walking works well around the Château de Caen, the Vaugueux area with its places to eat, and the Men’s Abbey, also called the Abbaye des Hommes. On the other hand, the Caen Memorial Museum, the Mémorial de Caen, sits uphill. From the city centre, it is about a 45-minute walk. Many visitors choose the tram or bus for that trip.
