What is the Château de Caen?

The Château de Caen is a huge medieval fortress. It was built around 1060 by William the Conqueror. You can find it in the middle of Caen. It is among the largest enclosed castle grounds in Europe.

It is not only one grand home. Instead, the château works like a walled stronghold. It covers several acres. These days, the outer walls hold different cultural sites. For example, you can see the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Musée de Normandie. You can also visit the remains of the old medieval keep.
