What is Rouen famous for?

Rouen is known as the old capital of Normandy. It was also the place where Joan of Arc was executed by fire in 1431.

The city has another strong draw: Rouen Cathedral, made famous in part by Claude Monet. He returned to it many times to paint it. There is more than history here. The medieval centre is still kept in very good shape. You can walk through lanes that feel old and intact. People also go out of their way to see the Gros-Horloge. It sits across a narrow cobbled street and dates to the 1300s. Nearby, you will find many half-timbered homes. A large number of them endured the heavy bombings during World War II.
