How long does a Big Chimgan hike take?
A full round-trip trek up to the summit of Big Chimgan takes roughly 6 to 8 hours, depending on your physical fitness and which trail variant you end up taking. Shorter hikes near the lower elevations around the base take only 2 to 4 hours.
Getting to the 3,309-metre peak really feels like a full-day commitment. Most hikers begin early, about 6:00 AM, in order to steer clear of strong midday heat and then the evening mountain storms that can roll in. The climb is demanding, and it needs frequent pause points to acclimatise to the altitude, so the uphill part moves much more slowly than the way back down. Make sure you bring enough water and high-energy snacks, because there are no services along the mountain path.
