How far is the Imam al-Bukhari Complex from Samarkand?
The Imam al-Bukhari Memorial Complex is located in the village of Hartang, around 25 kilometres north of Samarkand. Getting there from the city centre usually takes 30 to 40 minutes by taxi, depending on traffic and all that.
This huge architectural site is among the most important pilgrimage places in the Islamic world. It contains the tomb of the well-known 9th-century Hadith scholar Muhammad al-Bukhari, so people come for spiritual reasons rather than just sightseeing. Since it sits quite far beyond the main visitor corridors of Samarkand, there are no direct bus lines geared for foreigners, at least not commonly. So, the practical solution is to hire a private driver or use a ride-hailing app for a round-trip visit.
