How difficult is hiking in Big Chimgan?
Hiking around Big Chimgan goes from moderate, scenic footpaths in the lower valleys to very difficult and technical mountaineering, needed if you want the peak. The complete summit climb is demanding and should only be tried by people who are physically ready.
The main summit rises to about 3,309 metres. Down lower, the trails that pass along the Beldersay ridge can be taken by casual hikers; however, getting to the top means steep gradients, loose scree, and scrambling across sharp rock faces. Near the upper zone, altitude sickness may show up. Beginners should never attempt the summit alone, and bringing an experienced local mountain guide is essential for finding the safest ascent line.
