What is the Condoriri Trek near La Paz?

The Condoriri Trek is this spectacular high-altitude route in the Cordillera Real range, and it’s pretty close, just a few hours from La Paz. People call it that because of the Condoriri massif, which is like a whole set of snow-capped summits. They look as if an Andean condor is soaring, wings out, like that.

Trekkers love the area for the pristine ice-formed lakes, especially Laguna Chiar Khota, plus the rough alpine scenery that just keeps going. Depending on what you want, it can be a hard day hike, or you can stretch it into a longer multi-day expedition, with crossings of passes above 5,000 metres. And because the altitude is extreme, good acclimatisation and arranging the services of a certified local mountain guide are essential for a safe trip, really.
