What is the history of Isla del Sol in Inca mythology?

In Inca mythology, Isla del Sol is revered as the birthplace of the sun deity Inti and also the absolute cradle of the Inca civilisation, or at least that is how people often repeat it. They say that the first Inca ruler, Manco Cápac, along with his sister-wife, Mama Ocllo, appeared from the waters of Lake Titicaca right there.

Since it is seen as the beginning marker of their empire, the island later became this intensely sacred pilgrimage spot; you can feel it in the stories. The Incas built many small shrines and field terraces, plus temples, like the puzzling Chincana complex and the Pilko Kaina palace, to honour their gods and to house the religious elite who travelled there to offer tribute.
