Is Bolivia cheap for tourists?

Bolivia is one of the cheaper travel spots in South America, and it gives a really good bang for your buck for budget backpackers as well as mid-range travellers. Most days, lodging, local plates, and domestic transport cost a lot less than you would pay in nearby places like Chile or Brazil, and that makes the whole trip feel easier.

If you are travelling on a budget, you can still move around comfortably for about $30 to $40 per day, usually in hostels, and eat traditional set lunches known as “almuerzos”. For mid-range travellers, around $70 to $100 per day works well too, with private hotel rooms, solid restaurants, and guided visits. Day-to-day prices may seem low, but visitors still need to plan for higher-ticket guided activities. Things like multi-day 4×4 routes across the Salt Flats or lodge stays in the Amazon can take up the biggest slice of the budget, even if everything else feels affordable.
