How far is Sword Beach from Caen?

Sword Beach sits about 15 km (9 miles) to the north of Caen’s city centre. In normal traffic, the trip along the D515 road usually takes around 20 to 25 minutes.

This area mattered a lot in 1944 during the D-Day landings. Caen was a main goal, and the British 3rd Infantry Division focused on it. Because the distance is short today, it is simple for visitors staying in Caen to plan a quick half-day outing to the coast. From there, you can visit Ouistreham and Hermanville-sur-Mer. These towns fall within the Sword Beach sector.
